The only way was up and down
Team EW for Life raises nearly € 25,000.00 during Stelvio for Life
The first successful results of the study conducted by the Centre for Personalized Cancer Treatment in collaboration with 23 hospitals in the Netherlands prove that the analysing the DNA of cancer patients is useful. In order to make further research and thus a tailored treatment with minimum side effects possible, funding is required. The Stelvio for Life is therefore organized annually in Bormio in Italy. On Saturday September 2nd, the 6th edition was held. Team EW for Life was also at the starting line. The team members collectively raised nearly € 25,000.00 with their efforts. In total, €572,485.73 was raised for the charity.
Modified route
During the Stelvio for Life, the Passo dello Stelvio, 21.1 kilometres, with 34 curves, an average climb rate of 7.1% and 1533 climbing meters, is conquered. Due to the weather forecasts and to ensure the safety of all cyclists, runners and hikers, this year it was decided to turn have the participants turn around after 13 kilometres and not to finish at the top but in the village square. As a result, the route was even 26 kilometres instead of 21.1 kilometres long.
Team EW for Life
For our team members, it was a personal challenge to get the most out of themselves and finish the route. A physical battle, but certainly also an emotional one. Yet this is nothing compared with the battle that cancer patients fight on a daily basis. To make this fight more bearable for patients in the future, our team members were enormously motivated to do all they could. Bas Cornelissen, Director of EW Facility Services: 'They were really beautiful moments with the EW for Life team ... Energy, perseverance, a tear and a laugh, and a great deal of commitment to achieving the goals. Something that really fits our business.'
Ambassador
Since 2012, EW Facility Services has been Ambassador for the Barcode for Life foundation, the organization behind Stelvio for Life. EW Facility Services is also the main sponsor of the event. Cornelissen: 'The unique view of the treatment of cancer and the passion and daring of the foundation to follow new paths to achieve their goals is in line with our way of doing business. By investing together with other sponsors in the event, 100% of the amount collected by the participants goes to the foundation and thus to the research.'
Total raised
The total amount raised by all the participants in the Stelvio for Life stood at €572,485.73 on Saturday, and the counter is still running. The goal is to grow to an annual contribution of 1 million euros. Next year, EW Facility Services will again do everything possible with the EW for Life team to contribute.
