Location Het Gezinspaviljoen of Omring wins EW Facility Services Hygiene Scan
an eye for infection prevention
Hygiene in a care environment is more than just cleaning properly. It is an essential part of the quality of care and has a direct effect on satisfaction, patient safety and the overall experience. Infection prevention and control and the approach to cleaning maintenance play an important role in this. To draw attention to these important factors, at the end of last year, we held a draw amongst visitors of our webpage www.ew.nl/hygiene in which they could win a High-Quality Hygiene Scan. Recently, this scan was performed by an independent infection prevention specialist.
High-Quality Hygiene Scan
The lucky winner receiving the Hygiene Scan was Het Gezinspaviljoen of Omring, a care organisation in northern Noord-Holland that provides care in home care, specialist care, rehabilitation and treatment of heart disease. Founder Jenny Laros of Icosa Friesland, infection prevention specialist, about carrying out the scan: "Het Gezinspaviljoen has a distinct eye for infection prevention. Rooms look clean and tidy, there are cleaning agreements for the use of equipment and medical devices and employees are aware of hygiene and infection prevention. That's good to see! Nevertheless, some points of attention always emerge from a hygiene scan, which allow a location to better arm itself against infections. Consider, for example, the maintenance of a building, the presence or absence of paper towels in patient rooms or the way in which the cleaning team handles their resources and materials." Silvia Schutte of Het Gezinspaviljoen adds: "I am very happy with this hygiene scan, it really benefits us. We immediately started working on the points of attention. Because I also involved housekeeping right away, we were able to discuss the points of improvement with them quickly as well. Now, our department is even more hygienic!"
Importance of infection prevention and risk management
Combatting infections and the consequences thereof costs healthcare institutions a lot of money. Moreover, due to the vulnerable target group, the risk of complications or even death is considerable in a care environment. Various global developments such as long-distance travel, immigration and resistance to antibiotics increase the risk of infections in hospitals and care institutions. In addition, healthcare institutions are increasingly expected to be able to account for themselves. Not only where it comes to finances and good governance, but also patient safety, hygiene and a safe working environment.
High-Quality-Hygiene approach
EW Facility Services can contribute to the realisation of a hygienic and safe environment within healthcare institutions. With its High-Quality-Hygiene approach, the facility service provider strives to minimise the risk of infections and aims for professional Outbreak Management if, despite all the strict measures, this is still necessary.
